Lower Macungie Library will be holding a This I Believe program on Monday, July 20 from 6-7 pm at the Community Center Room B. This I Believe is a program started by NPR and Edward R. Murrow in the 1950s to offer average people the opportunity to share their voice, and it has reemerged. It was designed to encourage new kinds of discussion that can bring people together in a spirit of deeper understanding and respect, and encourage new voices to come together in an atmosphere of safety and inclusiveness. Fitting in with the teen’s summer theme of “Express Yourself”, we’d like to offer anyone who can write (or has someone to write for them) the opportunity to write a This I Believe statement. We’ll get your expressive juices flowing, and if you get your statements back to us that night or soon after, we’ll handle sending them into NPR where they may be read on the radio! We’d also like to make a book of our community’s statements to remain in the library. This program is limited to 80 participants and sign-ups are at the library.
